Oakville Voted #1 in Canada’s Best Places to Live
Oakville has just been voted #1 in the annual Best Places to Live in Canada. Initiated by Moneysense Magazine and conducted by Environics, the poll gathered data on 415 Canadian cities, ranking them in ten categories – economy, affordability, population growth, taxes, commute, crime, weather, access to health care (including median wait times), amenities and culture.
The poll discovered not only that Oakville was the best place to live overall, but also the best place for New Canadians, third best place to retire, and fifth best to raise a family. As a city with an average household income of $162,000, it isn’t the cheapest place to live, but there are plenty of affordable housing options especially in the new, relatively affordable townhouses and other high-density developments, according to the report. Combined with its access to good transit and transportation routes, this makes it very attractive for those priced out of the Toronto market.
John Zanini, president of Dunpar Homes, spotted Oakville’s value as a community years ago when he purchased the site that is now Trafalgar Ridge. He has always sought out project sites within established towns and cities, close to transit and local amenities and services, and the property that will soon have 112 exclusive townhomes is a perfect example. Although the footprint is not large, each home has a two-car garage, three spacious bedrooms, beautifully designed interiors with above standard features, and ranging from 1,940 to 2,600 square feet.
And while there is ample greenspace nearby in several parks — Castlefield, Oak Park and Laurelwood – there’s also easy access to great shopping and services. In addition to Oakville Place, grocery stores and dental and medical offices, Sheridan College is also within walking distance. Nearby is White Oaks Golf Club, the Oakville GO Station and QEW, both of which offer easy access to Mississauga, downtown Toronto and Burlington.
